Rivonia Trial

South Africa goes on Trial,The whole world was watching when the three major sabotage trials started in Pretoria, Cape Town and Maritzburg. But it is through the eyes of those at home watching the trials, that the world hears the news… and waits. DRUM’s cameraman at the Palace of Justice in Pretoria watched too as the crowds surged forward to find a place in the packed court-room for the “Rivonia trial.” There were the relatives and friends, who watched silently too as their loved ones were brought to trial on the charges that could send them to their deaths. The people facing the charges in the three cases are: PRETORIA: Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Dennis Goldberg, Lionel “Rusty” Bernstein, Govan Mbeki, Amed “Kathy” Kathrada, James Kantor, Andrew Mlangeni, Elias Motsoaledi, Raymond Mhlaba. CAPE TOWN: Neville Alexander, Don Davis, Marcus Solomons, Elizabeth van den Heyden, Fikili Bam, Ian Leslie van den Heyden, Lionel Davis, Dorothy Alexander, Dulcie September, Doris van den Heyden, Dordon Hendricks.
