Description: DM2008091703:EAED:SOCIAL:POLITICS:JUL 1964 - Angry Day For A.N.C - The scene as seen from the riot truck. Supporters of the African National Congress. Angered, humiliated and frustrated at their defeat in Zambia's January elections, vent their feelings on the police outside the party's national headquaters in Lusaka. The dispirited Congress men opened up from beneath the huge lion emblem painted on the wall of their headquarters. They used the first armaments which came to hand - in this case a conveniently situated pile of bricks. (Photograph by Drum Photographer BAHA)

Description: DM2008091704:EAED:SOCIAL:POLITICS:MAR 1964 - Angry Day For A.N.C - The Picture On The Right Caught the police as they rushed to stop the brick throwers. The dispirited Congress men opened up from beneath the huge lion emblem painted on the wall of their headquarters. They used the first armaments which came to hand - in this case a conveniently situated pile of bricks. DRUM was there to record the incident as the bricks flew wild and the police moved in rapidly to restore order. Despite similar, and far worse, flights during and before the elections, leader Harry Nkumbula has pledge himself to national unity above all. (Photograph by Drum Photographer BAHA)

Description: DM2008102708:SAED:SOCIAL:PERSONALITIES:FEB 1963 - He's The Eye Behind The Bed-Post - Majola's time out to cough. He's a guy who spends half his life trying to look like a hole in the wall, or part of the woodwork. He has to - his job and often his life depend on it. Tall, slim and unobtrusive, his name is Edward Nonjolo Majola. If you were to say to him you wouldn't notice him in a crowd, you'd be sure to get an answering smile and a "thanks for the compliment." For when the lights are low and the wife is out of the way and that sweet little girl is whispering mating calls in your flapping ears, he's the guy who is just round the corner with even more eager ears - paid by the wife. He's a private detective and most of the things he looks into are very private affairs. (Photograph by Peter Magubane BAHA)

Lichternburg born Mokae's conception of reading poetry to a backround of jazz was something magnificent. He joined the school band, the famous Father Huddleston Jazz Band, as tenor saxophone player along with such greats as Hugh Masekela , onetime husband of Mirriam Makeba. Mr Nxumalo swings a brand new bat, which has a some what varied effect on his audiences. On the other hand, it must be said that Mr Nxumalo's playing has always been for the cosy, smoky night club, rather than the big jam session. His music is for the small dedicated ring of listers belonging to perhaps to the Brubeck 'Goes to College' school. (Photograph by Drum Photographer Baileys Archives)
