Description: SAED:SPORTS:PERSONALITY:DRUM FEBRUARY 1952 Ð First African Lady Golfer - Mary Mofokeng Issues challenge To golfers of her sex. Mary playing a game of cards. Mary MofokengÕs first ambitions didnÕt have a thing to do with golf, in fact they didnÕt have a thing to do with sport generally. Born at Harrismith, Orange Free State, 26 years ago, she was, unfortunately parentless at an early age; but sympathetic relations thought she should become a school teacher. So they sent her to a Natal Institution for a domestic Science course, which she completed, but has never found much use for ever since; for , instead for practicing domestic science she joined a Johannesburg dry cleaning factory as an ordinary hand, and still in the dry cleaning business, this time as a marker. Description: DM2008071801:EAED:POLITICS:PERSONALITIES:DEC 1977 - My Plea For Peace - Exiled from her home and children Mama Malyam looks back on 13 years of marriage to Idi Amin, not with complaints for her own loss but with an appeal for her beloved country. Mama Malyam was married to President Amin for 13 years. She bore six of his children, saw him rise to power and accompanied him on state visits. Now she lives in a secret home in Britain, exiled from her homeland and separated from her children. Up to now she has stayed silent. But recently she appealed for the Ugandans to unite to build a new nation. "Our friends , our relatives have died but we are left behind. Let us all try to sit at the same table. We want the truth to be told so that our children can understand. If we can't stand and tell the truth there will be more sorrow." (Photograph by Drum Photographer BAHA )

He phoned the Guardian newspaper of London from Saude Arabia to say that troops loyal to him were a short distance from the Ugandan capital. The ex-president described himself as "young, strong and brave." Nigel Harvey, a British Journalist, then arranged to meet Amin at hotel in Jeddah. Amin turned up 15 minutes late. He was wearing a long white Saudi robe and was accompanied by two of his children. Amin looked slightly nervous, and immediately sought to leave saying that he had merely wanted to establish that he was alive and well and that his phone call was not a hoax. Jack Govender, a clerk, was the sole supporter of a wife and six children. A few years ago he sunk his life's savings into a house and contracted a large bond. Mrs. Govender is sure she and here family would starve and lose their home if it was not for the help of her husband's friends. "I have no help from my own family, "she says. "I am an orphan. Despite help from my husband's friends we can scarcely make ends meet. The detention has meant a lot of forced saving and stinting. My elder children are quite reconciled to the fact that they would not see their father for some while yet, but my youngest girl and boy give me the biggest heart-ache.
